2 DUPLEX IN SA RAPITA

Location: Sa Ràpita, Campos
Area: 250 m²
Project: 2006
Completion of work: 2009

The distribution is solved by adapting the spaces through a complex cubicle, narrow and long, in the shape of a trapezium, breaking the distribution of the volume with double levels and edges. The ground level is adapted to the shape of the plot, and the upper level is adapted to the angle of suspended areas of the building and the terraces. This double edge creates a transition from a more public space to a more private environment through a path that starts in the main garden, crossing the block diagonally, ending in a more intimate garden area. Located on the ground level are the main living areas: kitchen, dining room, and lounge room, which are connected to the exterior areas. Meanwhile, on the first level we find the bedrooms linked to the terrace and roof. The iroko-wooden staircase, which also entails a walk-in pantry and wardrobes, works organically in the space as another piece of furniture. This leads to the hall of the ground floor that is naturally illuminated by a sky-light. The crossed ventilation system, the passive solar energy panels, and the porch designed with a suspended pavement allows prime ventilation and avoids an excess of heat in the summer. These are solutions taken into account in order to ensure a correct bio-climatic performance. The roof of both houses may be enjoyed as a lookout, facing the island of Cabrera and the horizon.
